R. Hjelmeland, 87, Funeral Services Held at Calmar

Funeral services for Reinhardt Hjelmeland, 87, a long time resident of Calmar were conducted Thursday, Feb. 27, by the Rev. Roger Hazen in Calmar Lutheran Church. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were David Flaskerud, Lester Hjelmeland, Carl Hjelmeland, David Hjelmeland, Valerian Kuboushek and Herman Rosendahl. Mrs. Earle Hillman served as organist.

Mr. Hjelmeland was born Sept. 23, 1876, a son of Anders and Sophia Anderson Hjelmeland at Bygstad, Sunnfjord, Norway. On Nov. 10, 1904 he married Oleanne Groneng in Bergen, Norway, and came to America from Norway in 1907. They were the parents of three children who survive: Kitty (Mrs. Henry Flaskerud) of Calmar, Conrad and Robert Hjelmeland, both of Decorah.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister, Rev. John Hjelmeland of Everett, Wash., Samuel Hjelmeland in Calif., and Mrs. Rachel Olson of Elk Point, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, three brothers, one great-grandson and his wife who died on April 14, 1934. In 1938 he married Barbara Klein who also preceded him in death Feb. 8, 1959.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Rachel Olson and Mrs. Raymond Rosenbaum of Elk Point, S.D.; Mrs Rudy Turansky, Omaha, Neb.; Andrew Hjelmeland, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Anderson, Cedar Falls; and Mrs. Eddie Jaster of Northlake, Ill.
