Dorothy Joyce Seidelman, 85, formerly of Oswego, IL died Friday, 25 April 2008 at 12:06 a.m. surrounded by her family in Osseo, WI. Dorothy was born in Bath, IL on June 10, 1922, the daughter of Susan Caroline Lindley and Harold Z. Van Etten.
After graduation from Oswego High School, Class of 1940, she was united in marriage on August 24, 1940 to August Raymond Seidelman, a local Oswego farmer, in her parents' home in Oswego, IL. August and her father, Harold, built their home at 117 Ashland Street where the family resided until 2001 when she sold the family home in Oswego and moved to Osseo, WI to reside with her daughter and family. She missed many of her friends in Oswego and kept in touch with many of them. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd (Federated Church) Oswego, where she started attending as a small child.
Dorothy and sister Enid, braided hand-made wool rugs for Mrs. Patterson who sold them at Marshall Fields in Chicago. Dorothy worked 4 years at Processed Plastic before moving to Western Electric, Montgomery for 25 years before retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Pioneer's Club of America.
After moving to Wisconsin, she was "Grandma Dorothy" a volunteer at the Osseo Elementary School. She enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling, and seeing plays, musicals and listening to her favorite songs - "Amazing Grace" was number one on her list.
Survived by her four children, James Seidelman of West Hollywood, CA, John (Lois) Seidelman of Oswego, IL, Joey (Barbara) Seidelman of Aurora, IL, and Susan (Charles) Feltes of Osseo, WI. Grandchildren: John August (Michele) Turner, Michelle Lee (Kent) Sager, Lisa (Kevin) Jobe, Joey (Patti) Seidelman Jr., Jennifer (Terry) Estenson, Katherine (Tim) Fischer, Victor Feltes, and Laura Feltes. Great-Grandchildren: Dylan, Brandon, Austin, Griffin and Mikayla Turner, Daniel and LeeAnn Sager, Brittany Seidelman, Jason Krupela, Jr., Cassandra Davidson, Kevin Alicia, and Kameron Jobe, Ashley, Kayla, Barbara, Rebecca, Joey III, Seidelman. Great-Great Grandchilden: Karli, Kelby and Kylee Estenson, Langdon Fischer, Chanze Christopher, and Brianna Krupela.
Dorothy is survived by her sisters Marybelle Lucas of Sandwich, IL, Nancy Weaver of New Auburn, WI, and brother Warren (Joyce) Van Etten of Grant AL.and brother-in-law Harold (Ardis) Seidelman of Aurora, IL and sister-in-law Edythe Van Etten of Phoenix, AZ
She was preceded in death by her husband August on 13 February 1999, her parents and her step-mother Florence Warren Van Etten , brothers Robert and Harold Van Etten and sister Enid Haacker.
Visitation will take place on Monday, April 28, 2008 from 1:00 until the funeral service at 2:00 PM at the McKEOWN-DUNN FUNERAL HOME, LTD & CREMATION SERVICES at 210 S Madison St in Oswego, IL with Rev Phil Sheets officiating. Burial will take place at Pearce Cemetery in Oswego, IL.
