Henry Van Hyning was a Revolutionary War captain who left New York with Hannah, his second wife, and settled in the Medina/Summit County area in 1805. He later became Norton's first Justice of the Peace. He is also one of Norton's oldest citizens. At the time of his death he was 102 years old. His first wife (name unknown) died in New York, second wife Hannah Brower died in 1823, and third wife Prudence Hobart died sometime after 1850.
