Funeral services for Irene Byers, 90 of Blair who died suddenly at her home April 11, 1990 were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at the First United Methodist Church in Blair, with burial in the Kennard Cemetery. Dr. Howard Bailey and Rev. Kenneth Jensen officiated at the services.

Irene McCrill was born on March 5, 1900 at Blencoe, Iowa to Elzie and Minnie Rock McCrill. She graduated from Blencoe High School and attended Fremont Normal, Morningside College, Iowa State Teacher College and the University of Nebraska. She taught at Humboldt, Wauneta, Oakland and Kennard, Nebraska.

On June 19, 1926, she married Frank Byers. They lived south of Kennard until moving to Blair in 1955 where she has made her home until her death.

She was a member of the Kennard and Blair United Methodist Church. She was involved in many community affairs and enjoyed playing bridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 1968, one son, Dwight and two sisters. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, William (Bill) and Alice Byers, Kennard, and Allan and Ellen Byers of St. Louis, Missouri; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two sisters, Genevieve Petersen and Dessie Keele, both of Blencoe, Iowa.
