Rev. Efford S. Epling, 70, of Otto Route, Spencer, died Sunday at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, in Charleston.

He was born at Spencer, a son of the late John W. and Anna Starcher Epling. He was a minister for 51 years and had been a carpenter for 40 years. He was a member of the Epling Chapel Church.

He is survived by his wife, Opal Tibble Lynch Epling; four sons, Tim Epling of Southern Pines, NC, Daniel Epling of Parkersburg, David Epling of Spencer and Smith Epling of Lebanon, Tenn.; two stepsons, Basil Lynch of South Carolina and Charles Lynch of Spencer; one step-daughter, Mrs. Ray Karickhoff of Spencer; one sister, Mrs. Carl (Anna Faith) Miller of Spencer; one brother, Mason Epling of Spencer; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kay Keith Epling.

Services will be 2 pm Tuesday at Vandale Funeral Home Chapel in Spencer, with the Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial will be in the Epling Chapel Cemetery at Looneyville, WV.
