Laura Scharberg, Stewartville, dies at 88

Stewartville - Laura Marie Scharberg, 88 of Stewartville, a former Rock Dell area farm homemaker, died today at Stewartville Nursing Home where she resided four years.

Born Laura Marie Hugstad on Sept.14, 1901, in Vernon Township, rural Hayfield, she grew up on the family farm before marrying Edwin Scharberg on May 14, 1929, in West St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell. The couple farmed in Rock Dell Township until 1973 when they retired and moved to Stewartville. Mr. Scharberg died in 1984. Mrs. Scharberg was a member of East St. Olaf Lutheran Church and its ladies aid and circles.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth (Mrs A.J.) Steines of rural Stewartville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother Oscar Hugstad of Hayfield; and a sister, Mabel Hugstad of Hayfield. Four brothers preceded her in death.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Sara Beth Akre officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday until 11:30 a.m. at Griffin Funeral Home in Stewartville and an hour before the service at the church.
