Henirich "Henry" Ezra Neese was the son of Louis and Anna (Boettcher) Neese. His parents built the Neese School house on Highway 50 for their children to attend. It was there that Henry, circa 1778, lost the sight of one eye. He was hit in the eye with a BB gun. Pictures of Henry Neese as an adult are usually taken from the side.
Mr. Neese married Regina Morre on 12 September 1897. Two children were born to this union: Rey Gladys born 13 September 1901 (the first child born in the newly incorporated Bland) and Wilbur Louis Whitmore Neese born 22 Mar 1907. Rey Neese married Dr. Raymond Fred Lichte in 1924. Mrs. Neese never recovered from the birth of this second child and she died in St. Louis, MO, 22 Mar 1907. In 1913 Henry Neese married Flossie Faye Taylor. One child was born to this union in 1918: Daisy Dean Neese. Daisy Dean Neese married David Clement Vance, Jr. in 1940.
Henry Neese spent the early 1900s in Bland, MO, with his family of wife, children, and parents. By 1900 word was received that a contract to build a railroad between St. Louis and Kansas City had been let. This would pass near Bland. By 1901 the first train arrived. A box car served as the first depot and Henry Neese was the first depot agent.
Bland Commercial Bank was organized and opened for business in 1902. The officers were Henry Lahmeyer, Sr., President, Louis Neese, Sr. (father of Henry Ezra), Vice President, L.F. Neese (brother of Henry Ezra), Cashier. Bank robbers attempted to rob the bank on Monday night, Mary 9, 1909. Mr. Henry Neese, depot agent, was instrumental in their arrest. The bank stayed in business until Wednesday, July 20, 1921, when it was closed by orders of the Board of Directors. When the bank closed its doors in 1921, many in the town were hurt financially. The Neese family was crushed financially and personally.
While living in Wellington with his second wife, Henry Neese was active in city affairs and Boy Scouts.
