Born in the village of Skippool, Poulton-le-Fylde Parish, Lancashire, England, son of William Partington and Ellen Seed.

Married 1) Ann Taylor on 12 August 1832 in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, England.

Immigrated 16 January 1843 aboard the ship "Swanton." Lived in Nauvoo, Illinois an St. Louis, Missouri about migrating across the plains in Moses Clawson Company of 1853, arriving in the Salt Lake valley on 15 September 1853.

Father of Catherine Findlay, Ellen Marie Kay, William Edward Partington, Henry Ralph Partington (died in Preston, England), Sarah Jane Quayle (died in Oakland, CA), Joseph Hiram Partington (died in Nauvoo, Ill.), James Taylor Partington, Heber George Partington (died in St. Louis, Missouri)
