She was born May 24, 1949 in Salt Lake City to Leone Aubrey and Vernon Allen Backman. She attended West High School and Hollywood Beauty School. Married Joseph L. Brooks on May 4, 1968.Sherrie was the very example of what a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend should be. All those fortunate enough to know her had their lives forever changed by her genuine love, concern and compassion for her friends and family. Those she leaves behind will always strive to honor her memory with their thoughts and actions. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the U of U Medical Center. To be singled out for special thanks are Dr. Mark Dodson, whose decisions in the beginning brought us precious time. Dr. Sandra Buys, whose skill as a doctor is equaled only by her compassion. The nurses of 5 North. BMT and Clinic 3, SICU, to us you are all truly heroes. Thanks to her friends and colleagues at SLCC for their concern and support during her illness.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph L. Brooks; daughter, Gina (Andy) Salmon; her son, Bradley J. Brooks; mother, Leone A. Backman; sisters, Karen B. Fisher, Verlone E. Llewelyn; brother, Vernon Earl Backman; and two grandchildren, Justin B. Salmon Hayden A. Salmon (4 months); and numerous friends. Preceded in death by her father, Vernon A. Backman.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 24, 1998 at 12 noon at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, where the family will receive friends, Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment at Valley View Memorial Park.
