CLARION – Sloan Byron Gathers died at 2:31 p.m. yesterday at his residence on South 5th Avenue in Clarion. Born July 7, 1895, in Clarion County, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sloan Sylvester Gathers. He was married to the former Nina Shaffer who died in 1951. Mr. Gathers was a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Sligo and a member of the American Legion Post in Clarion, he was also a veteran of World War I, and a member of the VFW Social Club in Clarion. For a number of years he was farmer in the Curllsville area and also worked for the State Highway in the Maintenance Department. Surviving are a son, Sloan S. of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter, Evelyn L. of Clarion; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Botzer of New Kensington; and a grandchild. Removal was made to the Goble Funeral Home in Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. James Cox, pastor of the Methodist Church of Clarion, officiating. Interment will be in the Sligo Cemetery. Derrick (Oil City, Pa), Thursday, May 12, 1966. Pg 2.
