Born December 27, 1941, in Altoona, he was a son of the late Merrell and Ethel (Schoening) McCorkle. He was married in 1965 to Sharon E Punchios, who survives.
He was a school teacher for 38 years in the DuBois Area School District. He was also an instructor for the Gannon University and worked for the Performance Learning Systems.
He was a member of Pennsylvania State Education Association. He was on the boards of UNILEC and the PA REA. He was a Sunday school teacher at the Home Camp United Methodist Church where he was a member. He was an Eagle Scout and a Boy Scout director at Camp Mountain Run. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is also survived by one son, Sean P McCorkle of RD1, Rockton; two daughters, Milissa S Smyers of Huntington and Holly M Kurten of Dillsburg; and three grandchildren.
Friends were received from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Monday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc. of DuBois, PA and from 10-11 am, Tuesday at the Home Camp United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at 11 am Tuesday at the Church with the Rev. Carl White officiating. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery in Altoona, PA. Memorial donations may be made to the Home Camp United Methodist Church.
