Mrs. Lucretia Ann Martin died at her home near Kansas, this county, this morning at 3:15 o'clock. She had been ill for some weeks.
Mrs. Martin was born Oct. 5th, 1818, in Washington county, Ind. At the age of three years, she moved with her parents near Kansas. Bartholomew county, Ind.
She was married to Hiram Barnhill, July 30th, 1837. This union was blest with eleven children, seven boys and four girls, six of whom are now living, viz, James L. , Mary C., George H., Elizabeth, John W. and Samuel S. Five children and her much beloved husband have preceded her the spirit hand. Hiram Barnhill, the husband, died April 26th, 1875. Her conversion, about which she so much loved to talk to her children and other, took place fifty-five years ago, when she was 23 years of age.
She was brought up a Separate Baptist, but with her husband joined the U.B. church in which she retained her membership until 1878, when she joined the M.E. church at Kansas, where she lived an acceptable member until death. She talked with her children of her approaching death, was fully ready, and urged them to meet her in the better land. The great burden of her last days seemed to be the salvation of her children. She reminded them that "the way was provided," and it rested alone with them. To one she said in rearing so large a family I've not always had enough patience, and cared too much about the things of the world, but I've prayed to God and he has forgiven all and now I am ready and willing to go.
