Janice Wilfong, 78, of Longmont, died May 9, 2018 at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO.
Janice was born on May 26, 1939, to Walter and Carol (Beck) Christensen in Cheyenne, Wyoming, entering the world at 3 lbs. 12 oz. She was very small for her age all through her early years and her parents worried about her trying to get her to eat more to get "as big as the other girls". However, she remained petite and at age 18, modeled her grandmother's wedding dress with an 18 inch waist.
She was graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1957, and then spent two years at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. She was married on July 10, 1959, to William S. Wilfong, of West Virginia, whom she met in 1957 and they were married for 58 years. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2009, with all the children and grandchildren returning to Longmont to help them celebrate.
Janice went back to school after having three children to the University of Colorado in Boulder, graduating in December of 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She later worked for the St. Vrain Valley Schools as a tutor, assistant coordinator, and coordinator for the Lau Program, which became part of the Bilingual Program in the 1980's. She also worked for several investment firms and a dentist.
She is survived by her husband, William (Willy) (Bill), her sons Michael of Longmont, Colorado, Stephen (Amy) of Wenatchee, Washington, and daughter Amy Lounsbury of Hillsdale, Wyoming, along with five grandchildren, Ashley Hewitt (Joel) and Victoria Stutzman (Chad) of Wenatchee, WA, Brittoni Wilfong of Longmont, CO and Kristen and Cole Lounsbury, of Hillsdale, WY. Great grandchildren Henry and Leela Hewitt, and Blake and Tinley Stutzman of Wenatchee, WA. She is also survived by her sister, Joanne Austin (Burbidge) of Longmont, CO and aunt, Polly Beck of Oakland, CA and numerous cousins.
Janice was a member of the Longmont Genealogical Society and was on the board several times, and also a member of the Longs Peak Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed meeting with her Swedish group monthly. Her hobbies were doing genealogy, reading, playing Words with Friends and Sudoku, playing the stock market, and in former years crocheting and embroidery work. She played piano and enjoyed musical productions. She was a former member of the Newcomer's Club and the Methodist Church. She also enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband and family when the kids were young and enjoyed all the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
