Well Known Resident Of Mountain Dies
Curtis Philip Adams, aged 71 years, a well known resident of the Monterey and Blue Ridge Summit section, died at his home on the Buchanan Trail near Monterey this morning at 6:30 o'clock following a heart attack yesterday morning.
He had been in good health until he suffered a stroke in February of last year, but recovered sufficiently to resume his work and his place as an active worker in Hawley Memorial church, of which he was a member and trustee. He was about his duties yesterday morning as usual when he was taken suddenly with the heart attack which resulted in his death.
Mr. Adams was born in Springfield, Ill., November 8, 1856 but when a youth moved to Hagerstown where he engaged in business as a plumber for a number of years. He later came to Waynesboro, and after spending about five years here, moved to the mountain section about thirty years ago where, until his death, he carried on a plumbing business.
He was a staunch Republican and took an active interest in the work of the party. He served as a member of the Washington township school board about eight years ago and at the time of his death he was register-assessor of the fourth district of Washington township.
He was also a member of the Waynesboro council, Junior Order United American Mechanics.
He is survive by his widow, Mrs. Mary A. (Benchoff) Adams and the following children: George W., Jersey City, N.J.; Mrs. Roy C. Cline, Charmian; Philip Roy Adams, York, and Miss Hazel, at Home; also, one sister, Mrs. Katherine Stemm, Waynesboro, and two brothers, Theodore and Elton G., both of Hagerstown.
Funeral services will be conducted at the home by Rev. J. W. Trout, pastor of Hawley Memorial church, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Burns Hill cemetery.
