Tarentum
Alberta F. Balog, 87, of Tarentum, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, in Clarksville, Tenn., at the home of her daughter. She was born July 3, 1920, in Harrison Township, a daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Sober) Demharter. She resided in the Tarentum area most of her life and was a licensed practical nurse at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights for 20 years. Mrs. Balog was a member of Holy Martyrs Church in Tarentum and the Catholic Daughters of America in Tarentum. She also was a court judge of elections in West Tarentum for many years. Mrs. Balog graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1938 as class valedictorian and graduated with honors from Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Balog loved cooking, baking, dancing and playing cards. She is survived by her daughter whom she lived the past 19 months with, Barbara Eckman and her fiancee, George Geotzka, of Clarksville; and son, Kenneth Balog and Sallie Grimm, of Tarentum. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Balog; and two sisters, Alice McGaughey and Agnes Ventorini. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Mrs. Balog's life from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., Tarentum. A private burial will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
