Mrs. Nina Fuller Durham, age 89, died at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center very early on Saturday morning, Aug. 26, 2006. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, in Calvary Episcopal Church with interment to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The Rev. James Purks will officiate.
Born April 2, 1917 in Atlanta, she was a daughter of the late William Alford Fuller and Margaret Louise Latimer Fuller. Her grandfather was the famed Captain William A. Fuller whose efforts to maintain the jeopardized rail service between Atlanta and Chattanooga during the civil war were memorialized by Walt Disney in the movie "The Great Locomotive Chase."
She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Episcopal Church.
The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions to Magnolia Manor, 2001 S. Lee St., Americus, GA 31709, Hospice of Americus and Sumter County, P.O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709, or to Calvary Episcopal Church, 408 S. Lee St., Americus, GA 31709, are suggested.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the residence of Jane and Lamar Myers, 234 W. Dodson St., Americus.
Survivors include a daughter, Miss Grace Durham of Edinburgh, Scotland; a sister, Margaret Fuller Ramsey Marchant Rousseau of Orangeburg, S.C.; a brother and his wife, Edwin Forrest Fuller and Alma Fuller of Atlanta; a number of nieces and nephews, including Helene Ramsey Hand and her husband Dick, Carol and Susan Fuller, Eleanor Fuller Barr, Daniel Marchant and his wife Lynda, and William A. Fuller III; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dr. Bon Durham, a daughter, Nancy Kathleen Durham, and a brother, Dr. William A. Fuller.
Hancock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
