Mattie Belle was born in Hare, Texas. Her father and mother started the town of Hare. She was the daughter of Claiborn W. Garner and Aritia Willis. Her father Claiborn Garner was born in the Republic of Texas. His uncle Claibor West signed the Texas Decularation od Independence and hes father Issac Garner fought at the Battle of San Jacinto. Her mother cane to Texas in 1852 in a wagon train.
She met and married Henry Lee Devenpor in 1893. They had 13 children.
They settle in Jones County, Texas near Nugent. They later moved to Apache Ok. In 1917, they left Ok and travel by wagon with their herd of cattle to Toas, New Mexico. They returned to Donley County, Texas the same year and settle near Col. Charles Goodnight. They later moved to the Martin Community and ranch land on the Salt Fork branch of the Red Rive. Lake Greenbelt now covers much of their homestead.
Mattie was a member of the church of Christ for 72 years. She love attending church and crocheting. She also love to embroidery.
She was preceeded in death by a daughter Shara, four sons, George, Dewey, Woodrow, and Ira.
She was survived by four daughters, Anne Thompson of Grimes, Ok, Mae Wilkinson of Clarendon, Lois Moree of Gould, Ok, and Lola White of Stinnett. Four sons, Clarence of Dallas, Charles of Canyon, Jay of Meeker, Ok and Ralph of Pampa and one sister Eva Garner of Austin, 21 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren.
She was always smiling and enjoyed life. She was a friend to everyone.
