Clarence F. Anderson, the World War II veteran and Fremont County rodeo enthusiast with more than 55 years in the community, died Sunday, October 10, 1993, at his daughter's home in Cheyenne.
He was 75, and had battled cancer for many years.
Services for Mr. Anderson have been arranged for 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, at the Davis Funeral Home. The Rev. Earl Detweiler of United Methodist Church officiates. Julie Wortham provides an eulogy. Interment follows at Mountain View Cemetery.
Clarence F. Anderson was born July 19, 1918, in Shickley, Nebraska, the son of Esther(Swanson) and Leonard Anderson.
He moved to the Riverton area at age 17, working as a ranch hand. He also performed oil field work and landscaping.
Clarence Anderson married Leona Sinner on September 13, 1942, in Riverton, WY.
Mr. Anderson served in the infantry during World War II, and was highly decorated. He had the Bronze Star and Silver Star and several Purple Hearts.
Fremont County children knew him as Grandpa Anderson. "He was always in the stands cheering the kids on in their rodeo events," his family said.
Rodeo was of keen interest to Mr. Anderson. He enjoyed team and calf roping, bareback riding and steer riding.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the 70th Division Trailblazers Unit, the Riverton Riding Club, the Old timers Rodeo Association and Fellowship of Christian Cowboys.
He was a founding member of Lil' Cowpokes Rodeo Association.
Survivors are his wife, of Riverton; a son, Donald L. Anderson of Douglas; a daughter, LindaKay Nelson of Cheyenne; five grandchildren, Tina Anderson and Tami Petty of Rock Springs, Blaine and Bradi Coe Nelson of Cheyenne and PFC Troy Don Anderson of Fort Hood, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Briannna Anderson of Cheyenne and Kayle Petty of Rock Springs; three brothers and two sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Blaine Anderson.
