Mrs. Gertrude B. Hawkins, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McKinney, was born in Navasota, Texas, Grimes County.
She attended public school in Navasota, TX. After completing high school, she attended Prairie View A and M College, where she received the B.S. Degree and the Masters Degree from Texas Southern University.
Early in childhood, she united with the Friendship Baptist Church and retained this membership until called home to be with the Master.
She was united in marriage with Mr. Frank Hawkins, who preceded her in death.
Her service to the public was teaching. She taught in Madison, Robertson and Brazos County, and until her retirement. Mrs. Hawkins was a member of the faculty of the A. M. T. School system, Cawthorne, Texas.
She lived a beautiful and fruitful life until her death, January 24, 1976 in the St. Paul Hospital, Dallas, Texas.
Pleasant memories are left with one sister, Mrs. Emma J. Colbert, Dallas, Texas, one niece, two nephews, an aunt and a host of other relatives and friends.
