Edith Arletta Earl was born in Gaston, Washington Co., Oregon. She was the daughter of Edward Alfred Earl b. January 28, 1884, in Kearney, Nebraska and died April 13, 1959 in Coos Bay, Oregon and Hattie Arletta Curtis. Edward and Hattie married April 18, 1921 in Hillsboro, Oregon. Hattie "Arletta" died April 26, 1968 in North Bend, Coos Co., Oregon.
Edith had a twin brother, Alvin Afred Earl and brothers, Albert or Hubert Edward and Herbert Herman, born April 10th or 11th, 1923 in Tillamook, OR, also twins and brother, Calvin James Earl born July 9, 1924, in Tillamook, OR. Calvin died October 7, 1990 in Coos Bay, Oregon. She also had a step brother, Emery Earl Henry (1915-1984), from her mother's first marriage to Henry Albert Holland.
Edward Alfred Earl, had retired from Coos Head Timber Co. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.
Hattie Arletta had bouts with mental illness and spent time in the Feeble Minded Institute. Possibly, as a result, her twin son's Albert and Herbert were removed from her care and "farmed out". Edith, at a young age, was also removed from the care of her father, also, possibly during the absence of her mother. Edith was found with mental retardation and was instituted, most likely in the Oregon State Hospital in Salem, OR. It is not know when, but, at some point, she lived with a women in Salem, OR, who took her out of the home.
Very little is known of Edith's life.
