Birth: 1921
Death: Dec. 19, 1941

William John Anderson (and his twin brother Henry Bruce Anderson) were able seamen aboard the HMS Neptune which was tragiclly mined during the second world war.
HMS NEPTUNE sank with the loss of all but one of her Ship's company on the night of 19 December 1941. The tragedy took the lives of 757 officers and ratings; Able Seaman John Norman Walton was the sole survivor. Of those lost in NEPTUNE, 150 were New Zealanders, and 80 of them had served in the Naval Reserve before the outbreak of war.
I located the memorial plaque to William John and Henry Bruce Anderson in the Purewa Cemetery here in Auckland. Their mother Charlotte May Anderson died 11 days later (who knows, maybe of a broken heart). Their father John Ernest Anderson lived a long life and died at the age of 87. They lived in an area called Glendowie here in Auckland.
