John Böttcher, born Leeste, Hannover, the son of Carsten Heinrich & Gesche Adelheid (Drücker) Boettcher, married Gesine Essmann in 1874. Within the short period of four years, the couple suffered the heartbreaking loss of two children in 1877 and 1879, respectively. This tragedy then was followed by the death of the father and husband, John.
Obituary from Der Christliche Apologete:
Our beloved brother John Böttcher, devoted to the will of the Lord and in the faith of the Son of God, died after nine days of suffering (pneumonia) on December 27, 1879. He was born on July 16, 1852, in Leeste, county Sieke, Hannover, the son of Heinrich and Adelheid Böttcher. He came as a boy with his parents from Germany to this place and was educated in church and under the Methodist bishops. He married on October 22, 1874, with the now sorely afflicted/saddened sister Gesine, maiden-name Eßmann (Essmann). With her, he had 2 children but both were plucked/taken away as little buds and planted in heaven. The first died at the age of 1 month and 24 days, the other, a little boy, died 19 days before his father at the age of 1 year, 2 months and 16 days. He himself, our brother John Böttcher, had an age of 27 years, 5 months and 11 days. It is a sharp blow for the young widow. May the Lord console her. Her German parents and her siblings will do their best to help her. There are also many other hearts badly wounded by the death of our brother, his parents and numerous siblings.
Third Creek District, MO.
