HAZEL LEE GREEN DIES LAST WEEK
Hazel Lee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil C. Green, died at the family home near Emma early Saturday morning, May 19, 1934. Hazel Lee, who was 13 years old, had been ill only a few days with pneumonia.
She was born August 20, 1920, in Childress County, Texas. She moved to the Ralls country nearly 12 years ago with her parents, having resided here since.
Hazel Lee was a student in the Emma school, and was one of the most promising students there. She had always been outstanding in her school work, having been the valedictorian of her class in the 7th grade. She had also won numerous honors in literary events in the interscholastic league work, having won the arithmetic contest in 1931 and making the highest grade that had been in this contest in Crosby County. She had also won places in essay writing and declaiming.
Hazel Lee was also talented in music, often playing the piano for church and other services in her communities. She was a member of Ralls Baptist Church, having joined about two years ago, and had always lived a consistent Christian life.
It is indeed sad that death should claim the life of one of our most promising young ladies, who was such a comfort to her parents, a helper to her brother and sister, and a cheerful inspiration to her many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the home, with Rev. Bill Flores and R.L. Travis officiating. Interment was made in Ralls Cemetery, with Will Marr Funeral Directors in charge. Pall bearers were C. Sowell, Claude Adams, Butler Adams, Ashley Cox, T.M. McIntyre and Jim Butler.
Besides her parents, Hazel Lee is survived by one sister, Katherine, 9, and a brother, Cecil Jr., 18 months.
The Banner and the many friends of the bereaved ones extend heart-felt sympathy to them in this time of their great loss.
