Black Mountain - Anna Mae Orange, 97, of Black Mountain entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at her residence in Black Mountain.
She was born on May 28, 1909 in Madisonville, Ky. , the daughter of the late James Baxter and Sally Ann Dame Ashby. She was the wife of over 30 years to the late Cecil Edward Orange who preceded her in death in 1961.
She was preceded in death by her sisters; Edna Compton, and her husband, James Roy; Laura Shaw, and her husband, William; Ona Hicklin, and her husband, Melvin; Georgia Hicks, and her husband, McKinley; brothers; James Ross Ashby, and his wife, Pansy; and Homer Ashby, and his wife, Viola. She attended Nortonville High School where she starred on the basketball team circa 1924. Mrs. Orange spent most of her early days on her parent's farm, near Nortonville. In 1927 she married Cecil E. Orange, a mining engineer, of Mortons Gap, Ky. They had two children, Edward Neil and Gary Baxter both born in Nortonville. Gary lived only two weeks, he died from complications from measles contracted by Mrs. Orange before he was born. Mrs. Orange moved to the Black Mountain area in 1991 where she resided until her death.
She is survived by her son Edward Neil Orange, and his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann, of Black Mountain; four grandchildren; Edward Neil Orange, Jr. of Cooper City FL; Gary Baxter Orange, and his wife, Judith, of Elkhorn, Wisc.; Salijo McMechen, and her husband Ben, of Black Mountain; Craig Stanley Orange, and his wife Melanie, of Old Fort; eleven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; her faithful and caring caretaker; Rao Kotha and her pet cockatiel, "Corny".
