Television Host, Game Show Host, Actor, Entertainer, and Animal Rights Activist. Born in Darrington, Washington, Barker spent his childhood on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. After serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a naval aviator during World War II, he started his entertainment career in radio, before becoming the host of "Truth or Consequences" (1956-1975), along with hosting the Miss Universe and Miss U.S.A. pageants (1967-1987). He was most known as the host of "The Price Is Right", which he hosted from its start in 1972 until his retirement in 2007 (he was replaced by Drew Carey). He appeared as a satirized version of himself in the golf comedy film "Happy Gilmore" (1996). He was also a major advocate for animal rights and animal activism, supporting many groups such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). He passed away on August 26, 2023 at the age of 99 and was buried alongside his wife.
