ALBURGH CENTER - Paul J. Paquette, 78, a lifelong resident of Alburgh Center, passed away Saturday evening, June 24, 2006, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City after a long struggle of failing health due to diabetes.

Born on Sept. 11, 1927, in Alburgh, he was the son of the late Stanley and Almira (LaValley) Paquette. Paul attended Alburgh High School.

Paul faithfully served his country during World War II in the United States Army and was part of the European Theater. Following his discharge he married his long time friend and sweetheart, Kathryn Audrey James on Sept. 9, 1950, in Alburgh. He was very active in the community, 20 years on the Alburgh Selectboard, Grand Isle County Civil Board, Justice of the Peace and held numerous offices in American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60 in Alburgh, where he was a lifetime member. Paul worked for the Rutland Rail Road, Citizens Utilities Co., P.J. Medor, Inc. (formerly S. J. Campbell) and after many years retired from Vermont Precision Tools. Paul loved his family and will be sadly missed by all who knew and/or worked with him.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, George Paquette; sisters, Sister Margaret Paquette, Pauline Paquette, Shirley Paquette; and granddaughter, Denise.

In addition to his wife, Kathryn of 55 years, he leaves one daughter, Sharon Bockus and her husband, Dan; one son, Richard Paquette and his wife, Bonnie, all of Alburgh; two grandchildren, Robbie Calderwood and his wife, Thomasina of Swanton and Brian Paquette of Grand Isle, and a great-grandson, Brandon Calderwood of Swanton; five sisters, Marion Lauzon of Swanton, Lorraine Soule of New Hampshire, Gertrude Poquette of Connecticut, Donalda Paquette and longtime companion, Carl of Connecticut, Anita Robinson of New Jersey; one brother, Philip Paquette and his wife, Lenia of Connecticut; as well as many nieces, nephews and very close friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to caregivers Judy Rollins, Lynn Martin, Lisa Conger and Mary McDermott of Care Connection. Doctor Ned Shulman, Dr. Mara Vijups and the Intensive Care Nurses for the wonderful care provided to their father.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at the St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Alburgh Village. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE, will be the celebrant and homilist. Relatives and friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2006. Interment will follow in the Paquette Family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery.

Gifts in Paul's memory may be made to the Alburgh Fire Department and Rescue, 4 Fire House Rd. Alburgh, Vt. 05440; or to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Office, 77 Hegeman Drive, Colchester, Vt. 05446.
