Johann Michael Hillerich
Birth: Mar. 12, 1795
Odenwaldkreis
Hessen, Germany
Death: Dec. 19, 1879
Louisville
Jefferson County
Kentucky, USA

Born Johann Michael, Son of Matthaus and Elisabetha (Elbert) Hillerich. He married Anna Appolonia Ritter. They immigrated to America, arriving with their family on Oct. 7, 1842 through the Port of Baltimore. Along with his brother, Johann Friedrick/John Frederick "Fred" and his wife, Juliana Maria (Ritter) Hillerich and family, they settled in Louisville, KY. J. Michael is the grandfather of John A. 'Bud' Hillerich, who made the first baseball bat designed for an individual player, thus the birth of the 'Louisville Slugger' .

The following alternate information courtesy of Todd Whitesides, a fourth great-grandson of Michael.

Johann Michael Hillerich (1795-1879), son of Matthaus Hillerich and Elisabetha Elbert. Though born in Seckmauern in Herrschaft Breuberg (Hessen-Darmstadt), he was baptized at St Nikolauskirche (Katholische) in Woerth-am-Main (Bayern). He was described as a master-cooper in his native town before his exodus in 1842. He settled in Louisville, Kentucky, where he and his eldest son, Bernhard Hillerich (1818-1886), purchased in 1846 a lot on the south side of Geiger Street between Campbell and Wenzel Streets.

His obituary from the Louisville Anzeiger (20 Dec. 1879), p. 1, col. 5, reads:
"Starb: Am Freitag Abend um 6 Uhr, unser innigst geliebter Vater Michael Hillerich, im 85 Lebensjahre. Die Beerdigung findet Sonntag Nachmittag um 1 Uhr vom Trauerhause No. 20 Geigerstrasse aus statt, wozu Freunde und Bekannte ohne weitere Notiz ergebenst eingeladen sind."
