The evening of March 31st another bright star appeared in the sky. That afternoon the Lord took our brother Jim's hand and led him home to be with his mother, father and brothers and his special dog JJ that he loved so much. Jim died of cancer. He was a super guy and is greatly missed. .Rest in peace Jim, we will follow you one day and be together again.
James Marlow Armstrong
MIDDLEBURG - James M. Armstrong, 67, of 15 JC Mobile Home Court, passed away early Monday afternoon, March 31, 2008, at his home.
He was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Grafton, W.Va., a son of the late Samuel M. and Ada Pearl (Ball) Armstrong. In 1979, he married the former Connie L. Aucker, who survives.
Jim spent 17 1/2 years in the Army, serving in Germany, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palms.
He retired from Consolidated Freightways, where he drove more than two million miles.
Jim was Baptist. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5640, Middleburg, he founded and was a life member and past commander of VFW Post 3448, Mount Pocono. He was a member of the American Legion, Middleburg, a former member of American Legion Post 922 of Canadensis and a member of the Middlecreek Valley Antique Association. Jim was very proud of his military service.
Jim operated a stand selling miscellaneous items at the Middleburg Auction every Tuesday until forced to quit in July by his illness. He also enjoyed working the hamburger stand at the Middleburg Fireman's Carnival.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his seven children and their spouses, Marlo Ann and Ivan Dever, Dianna L. and Wayne Reynolds, Kenneth and Michelle Kuhns and Bryan Kuhns, three special children from his first marriage, Karen Sue, Julie Anne and Michael Charles; his mother-in-law, Josephine Aucker, who was very special to him; 2 brothers in law, Donnie & Dick Aucker and 2 sisters in law, Betty and Shirley, seven grandchildren, Anika and Russell James Dever, Shannon, Kyle and Brittney Kuhns, Courtney Shirey and Johnette Reynolds; one great-grandchild, Marley Herman; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles Robert and Virginia Armstrong, and one sister and brother-in-law, Linda Sue and George Yuricek.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel Minor Armstrong Jr., Harry Dale Armstrong and John David Armstrong, in infancy, and one daughter-in-law, Wendy Kuhns and his first wife Ruth. His precious pup JJ also preceeded Jim in death. I am sure JJ is in his arms again.
Visitors may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 11 with Pastor Leon Scholl officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Glendale Cemetery, Middleburg.
