Mrs. Leonard C. Denning.

Mrs. Leonard C. DENNING, who with her husband came to Kansas and settled in Perry in the early sixties, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dake PHILLIPS, in Topeka, June 22, 1922, age 86 years. Mrs. DENNING was a native of Arkansas, having been born at Carrol, Carlton county, that state, March 28, 1886. Her maiden name was ESTESS. At the age of 17 she married Mr. DENNING, uniting the same year with the Christian church, in which church she kept her membership the rest of her life. Mrs. DENNING, after her husband's death on January 30, 1885, continued to live on the old place, northeast of Perry, until two years ago, when because of old age and failing sight, she made her home with Mrs. PHILLIPS in Topeka.
Mr. and Mrs. DENNING were the parents of twelve children, seven of whom are still living, namely, Mrs. M.J. YOST, Mrs. Alice MALAY, and Mrs. Dake PHILLIPS of Topeka; Mrs. James BLEVINS, St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. John ROBINSON, Mrs. Ole Gay, and David DENNING all of Oskaloosa. Thirty grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren survive Mrs. DENNING.
Funeral services were held from the Perry Christian church Saturday afternoon, the Rev. M.M. THORNE of the Methodist church officiating. The text was taken from the Psalms, 116.15,"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Miss Georgia HOFFMAN rendered several very tender solos, Miss Anona CAIN at the piano. The pallbearers were Carl HEBBE, E.G. JENKINS, Milton DICK, Charles BRADFORD, and Charles and William KILLINGER. Interment was in the Buster cemetery. The many relatives of this departed woman have the deep sympathy of the Perry community in their time of sorrow.
