Bedford births: LANE, Samuel, s. John and Hannah, Oct. 21, 1737.

Bedford marriages: LANE, Samuel Jr. and Elizabeth [Elisabeth. MR] Fitch, Dec. 8, 1763. (Brown's History says this Samuel married Elizabeth Fitch but I don't understand the "Jr." since his father's name was John.)

SAMUEL LANE, 2d (John, Job), 1737-1822, b. Bedford, Mass., 21 Oct., 1737, m. 8 Dec., 1763, by Rev. Nathaniel Sherman, ELIZABETH FITCH, b. 6 Jan., 1738-9, dau. of Zachariah and great grand dau. of Samuel and Sarah (Lane) Fitch. She d. 29 Sept., 1796, ae. 57 ys., 8 ms., 20 ds. He was returned with Capt. John Moore's Co. of Militia, Apr. 3, 1776, as having been in the Concord Fight of Apr. 19, 1775. Town
Treasurer's account, July 12, 1777: "To Saml Lane jur, For Hiering Soldiers, 8𧈀." He was selectman of Bedford, Mass., 1780. Pastor's Tithing : "1797, Thanksgiving Week, Mr. Samuel Lane, Jr., 9 lbs beef. From Thanksgiving to April, Mr. S. Lane, 1 bushel rye meal." Mr. Lane inherited Elm farm, a portion of the Job Lane homestead, was in good financial circumstances, and d. 3 Aug., 1812, ae. 84 yrs., leaving no son. He was the last of the name in this line of the Lane family. His will was signed Apr. 10, 1818, presented for probate, Sept. 3, 1822; Moses Fitch and John Stearns, son-in-law, executors; appraisement ordered Sept. 9, 1822; inventory taken Oct. 1, 1821, exhibited Nov. 2, 1822; executors' account June 3, 1823; bequests to daus. Phebe Lane, Hannah Lane, Dorcas White, and to children of daughter Polly Stearns, deceased.

Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution, 17 Vols.:

Lane, Samuel, Jr., Bedford. Private, Capt. John Moore's (Bedford) co. of militia, which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775; service, 3 days; also, list of men between the ages of sixteen and sixty who were liable to bear arms, as returned to Col. Green, dated Bedford, May 15, 1775.
