She was predeceased by a daughter; Emily Ogarita Burnette; four sisters and five brothers.
She attended Asheville Normal and Teachers College, in Asheville and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1939, and attended George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, TN in 1958.
She was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church, The delta Kappa Gamma Society and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Burial: Mountain View Memorial Park.
