Note on back of portrait, written by Evelyn Potter Park, October 1, 1992:

Pearlie was born April 12, 1897, the only child of Edward and Lissie Gerardy who was born in the log cabin they first built on their homestead in the Forrest Community seven miles south of Chandler, Oklahoma. She died November 3, 1899 in the new house that was built that year. She died of diphtheria (then called membranous croup) and was buried in the Forrest Cemetery one-half mile west of the Gerardy farm.
Pearlie died just two days after her sister Myrtle was born. She was a beautiful little blonde, blue-eyed baby girl for whom her mother and the rest of the family always grieved.

From Gerardy Family History, by Evelyn (Potter) Park, 1998, p.63:

Ed and Lissie were charter members and organizers of the first church in that part of the county in 1893. It was called the Forest Congregational Church. From 1893 until 1899 the congregation met in the homes of the members. Ed gave lumber from his farm and labor to help build the church. Sadly, the first funeral held in the new church was for their daughter Pearlie.
