|Death: ||Dec. 27, 1896|
Finally, in 2008, it can be reported that Nancy Allum, daughter of James Allum and Evaline Gregory, is definitively documented.
Among articles in historical newspapers, I located the surname ALLUM within a death announcement in the December 28, 1896 edition of THE WHEELING REGISTER, Wheeling, West Virginia that includes news about residents of Bellaire, Belmont County, Ohio. That discovery led to the statement that "Mrs. Louis Jeffers," who died December 27 and would be buried in Rose Hill Cemetery (aka Greenwood Cemetery), was a sister to John Allum and Mrs. Isaac Fry [Louisa Allum]. The December 31, 1896 edition reports that J. P. Allum of Waynesburg, PA traveled to Bellaire "on account of the death of his sister, Mrs. Louis Jeffers."
Nancy married Louis Jeffers on July 23, 1874 in Bellaire, Belmont County, Ohio. She is recorded and/or transcribed "Nan Allen" for that event. Nancy became the mother of two daughters and two sons.
"A" Nancy A. Jeffers is on Lot 75 in Section E in Greenwood - Rose Hill Cemetery but "that Nancy" -- born in 1839, died in 1901 -- shares a stone with her husband, George W. Jeffers. While Nancy (Allum) Jeffers' obituary indicates her burial in Rose Hill Cemetery (aka Greenwood Cemetery), there is no record of that interrment and, I am informed, no stone for her. Neither is there a stone for her husband Louis, who IS recorded buried in Section E on Lot 79.
