“4 Die In Traffic Crashes
Lancaster – two Quartz Hill men were killed in separate weekend accidents, while a 17-year-old Leona Valley girl and a two-year-old Quartz Hill boy died as a result of accidents which occurred earlier in the week. …..
Sam Harris, 37, was killed Saturday when his motorcycle struck a vehicle, driven by Tari Markley, 17 of Quartz Hill, broadside on Avenue M near 22nd Street West.
Markley was westbound on M at a slow rate od speed and made a turn into a private road directly in the path of Harris, who was eastbound on M, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
Harris was listed as dead on arrival at Antelope Valley Medical Center, Markley and a passenger, Travis Markley, 6, suffered only minor injuries.”

Samuel Harris
Services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m., at Quartz Hill Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3140 West Ave. K, for Samuel Harris, owner of Sav-on Custom Floor Covering.
Mr. Harris died from injuries in a motorcycle accident near Lancaster June 23.
Bishop Lynn Baker will conduct the services and interment will be in Joshua Memorial Park.
Halley-Olsen Funeral Chapel in Lancaster is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Mr. Harris, a resident of Antelope Valley since 1964, was born April 17, 1942, in Chicago, Ill. And served in the U. S Air Force in the early 1960’s. He was an active member of the Antelope Valley Kiwanis Club, the YMCA Indian Guides and the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce.
Surviving are his wife Linda, and two sons, Richard and Jim Harris, all of Quartz Hill; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Harris, Van Nuys; a sister, Carole Green, Palmdale.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Harris’ memory.”

“Over Weekend – Four Dead As Result Of Traffic Accidents
Traffic accidents claimed the lives of two Antelope Valley residents Saturday and the others have died of injuries received in accidents last week.
Fatally injured Saturday afternoon was Samuel Harris, 37, of Quartz Hill, owner of the Sav-On Custom Floor Covering, and 18-year-old LaMar Paul Gray, former Quartz Hill High School student who died early Saturday morning in the Antelope Valley Medical Center of injuries received in a traffic accident Friday night.
The accident in which Mr. Harris lost his life occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday on Ave. M at the intersection of 22nd St. W.
CHP officers who investigated reported Tari Rae Markley, 17 of Quartz Hill was driving a pickup truck west on Ave. M and pulling a horse trailer when he made a left turn onto 22nd St. W. and into the past of Mr. Harris who was eastbound on Ave. M on a motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the vehicle broadside and Mr. Harris was taken to Antelope Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m. (Mr. Harris’ obituary appears elsewhere in this issue.)”

Funeral services for Samuel R. Harris, 37-year-old Lancaster businessman who died June 23 as a result of injuries received in a motorcycle accident, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Quartz Hill Ward – Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 314 W. Ave. K, Lancaster.
Officiating will be Bishop Lynn Baker, with interment following at Joshua Memorial Park, Lancaster.
Mr. Harris, who had lived in Antelope Valley since 1964, was owner of Sav-On Custom Floor Coverings, Lancaster.
Mr. Harris, a Quartz Hill resident, was born Apr. 17, 1942 in Chicago. Locally he was a member of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, and was active in the Antelope Valley Kiwanis Club and the YMCA Indian Guided program.
Mr. Harris, who served in the U.S. Air Force during the early 1960’s is survived by his wife, Linda, and two sons, Richard and Jim, all of Quartz Hill, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Harris, Van Nuys, Calif.
Also surviving is a sister, Carole Greene, Palm Springs, Calif.
Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Handling arrangements is Halley-Olsen Funeral Chapel, Lancaster.”
