John McCarty was born September 27, 1775. He was the youngest child of James McCarty and his wife who's maiden name was Martha Fugate.
According to the Sunderland Letter John's mother was killed by Indians when he was young. He was sent to his mother's people, the Fugates, to be raised. He returned to the Hawkins / Grainger County TN area in the spring of 1788.
John married Elizabeth Mayes Together they would have eight children. Martha McCarty, Isaac Froman McCarty, James Fugat McCarty, Jonathan Loven McCarty, William Franklin McCarty, Andrew Sterling McCarty, John Wesley Mitchell McCarty and Elizabeth Magengill McCarty.
When their children were getting older John and Elizabeth decided the family needed to move west. Where their children could acquire cheep land. So in the spring of 1833. John and five of his kids moved to Greene County, MO. His two oldest children, Martha and Isaac were married and owned good farms. Thet stayed in Tennessee. His next youngest child, James, married his own first cousin, Carolina Sytha Mayes. They didn't want their children living close to their own cousins. In fear their children would also intermarry within the family. James and Carolina moved to Jefferson County, MO.
John would die November 16, 1843 on his farm near Ebenezer, Greene County, Missouri. Where he is burird next to his wife Elizabeth on what was their farm. They don't have headstones.
