LA PLATA HOME PRESS, La Plata, Missouri March 8, 1928 Death of Mrs. Harold Barnes ---Madge A. Allen Barnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Allen, was born October 17, 1907, departed this life, February 29, 1928, at the age of 20 years, 4 months and 12 days. ---Madge Allen was united in marriage to Harold S. Barnes, Sept. 1926, to this union one daughter was born, Shirley Colleen. ---Madge was converted in early life, and united with the Elmer Baptist church in Jan. 1923, and was baptized April 1923, living a devoted christian life to the end. ---She leaves to mourn her departure besides a loving father and mother, a devoted husband and daughter, grandfather and grandmother, J. F. Farmer and great grandmother, Mrs. Mary Thompson, many other relatives and a host of friends. ---She was a member of the graduating class of the Elmer high school in 1925, with a record of perfect attendance and high scholarship. ---Madge was a faithful sufferer, never complained and kept her courage to the end. She is now at rest, and with her Saviour, the one that she loved and tried to obey. We know we can't bring her back to be with us, but thro God's goodness we can meet her some day. ---After the birth of her baby on the 18, of January she took a fever that last until she died. Everything possible was done for her, Dr. Gooch of Elmer, Dr. J. P. Foster of Cardy and Dr. Grim of Kirksville came to see her and after four weeks she was moved to the hospital at Kirksville where she died two weeks later. ---Her funeral was held at the Baptist church conducted by Rev. Mack Dawkins, burial in the new addition to the Elmer cemetery. ---The pall bearers were Paul Prentice, Swanson Smith, Laurence Pruitt, Frank Salyer, Donald Dale and Ernest Bailey. The flower girls were, Mrs. C. L. Nichols, Vera Jo Hunsaker, Ola Enyart, Mrs. F. B. McNeeley, Mrs. Freda Tate, Francis Hazelrigg, Hazel and Reba Arment, Mrs. Mary Matticks, Mrs. Theda Easley, and Mrs. Donald Dale. ---This was one of the most largely attended funerals ever held in Elmer and much sympathy is expressed for the husband and parents, by the entire community. All business houses closed and school dismissed to attend the funeral. ********************** Elmer Woman Passes Away March 1, 1928 Mrs. Harold Barnes, a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Farmer of near La Plata, passed away at the Grim-Smith hospital, Wednesday, about 5:30 o'clock. She was formerly Miss Madge Allen, she leaves a baby six weeks old. Funeral will be at the Baptist Church, Elmer, Friday afternoon. ********************** Mrs. Barnes, Of Elmer, Dies Here Today Kirksville (MO) Express & News February 29, 1928 ---Mrs. Madge Alene Barnes, wife of H. S. Barnes, of Elmer, died early this morning at a local hospital. Death was due to septic endocarditis, which was complicated following child birth. Mrs. Barnes was brought to the hospital about two weeks ago in a serious condition. ---Mrs. Barnes is the only child of Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Allen, of Elmer. She was born at LaCrosse, Mo., twenty years ago. In September 1926, she was united in marriage to Harold Barnes also of Elmer. ---She is survived by her husband and six-weeks old daughter, Shirley Coleen. She also leaves a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Allen. ---The body was taken to Elmer today. Funeral services will probably be held there some time Friday. ---During their short stay in Kirksville the family made many friends, who will extend heartfelt sympathy in its bereavement.
