Charlotte was the youngest daughter of Robert J. Collins and Clarissa. She was born in Ohio and moved to Iowa in the 1860's. She married Joel Ellis Savage (1827-1897) in 1867 and had four children, Flora Ritter(1868-1915), Edward Ellis Savage (1871-1951), John Elton Savage (1877-1912) and William Oliver Savage [My Grandfather] (1879-1956).

Charlotte S. Collins, daughter of Robert and Clarissa Collins was born in Ravenna, Stark, Ohio on 30 Jun 1846 and passed away at the home of her son Edgar Savage 12 Aug 1925 at the age of 79 years one month and thirteen, being one of the youngest children of the family of nine. While yet a very small girl, she with her parents moved to Washington County, Iowa. A little later she stayed with her brother Charles in Rochester, New York and attended school. On 17 Nov 1867 she was united in marriage to Joel E. Savage. They started housekeeping in Grand River Twsp and her entire life since with the exception of one year in Tabor, Iowa, has been spent in this county. Mr. & Mrs Savage were the parents of four children: Mrs. Flora Ritter and John E both deceased, Edgar E who resides on old home farm and Will O. of Des Moines. Mr. Savage passed awa y in August 1897. His widow lived wile on a farm, then for a few years lived with her daughter, Mrs. Ritter. The last 10 years she made her home with her son Edgar. She has been in poor health all summer but was taken much worse Tuesday and after severe suffering passed quietly away at 9:30AM, August 12. Besides the two sons who are left to mourn she leaves two brothers, Alfred Collins of Caledonia, New York and Edd Collins of Missoula, Montana, 10 grandchildren (Delmer Ritter, Flora Merle Savage, Mary Edna Savage, John Edgar Savage, Margie Ruth Savage, Francis Dale Savage, Arthur Albert Savage, Herbert Ivan Savage, Anne Isabel Savage and her newest granddaughter Marjorie Edith Savage) and other relatives and friends. Mrs. Savage was a charter member of the First Congregational Church of Grand River Twsp, and spent many years reading her Bible, which was a constant source of pleasure to her. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Basham, pastor of the Congregational Church of Orient amd Rev. Weed of the M.E. church of Hebron, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at teh home. After the services the desceased was conveyed to the Grand River Center Cemetery where the body was laid to rest at the side of her husband and children.
