Leffler Horace Akins Retired Educator
Leffler Horace Akins, 77, died Sunday at Bulloch Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Bulloch County and a retired Assistant Superintendent with the Bulloch County board of Education. He was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association and was a member of the Statesboro Lions Club. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. He was a member of Statesboro First Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Lois A. Akins, Statesboro; one daughter, June A. Ward, Statesboro; five sisters, Chris A. Birley, East Moline, ILL, Jonnie A. Wynn, New Ellenton, SC, Sally A. Deal, Statesboro, Barbara "Babs" McNure, Metter and Bobbi A. Bennett, Starke, FL; four brothers, Leo D. Akins, Waycross, Bernie Akins, New Ellenton, SC, Dedrick D. Akins, Statesboro and Ronald A. Akins, Belchertown, MS; and one grandchild, April A. Wade, Gray.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Statesboro First Baptist Church with Dr. H. William Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
