She was born in Russia where she was taken as a prisoner of war to Germany at age 16. It was there that she met her husband Lucian, also a prisoner of war. They were married in August of 1945 and came to the U.S. in 1950. Together they had and raised four children.
The family name and honor is also proudly carried on by six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.Also surviving is niece and caregiver, and many relatives and friends in the U.S. and Europe.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Lucian on December 28, 1969, and her son George on March 17, 2006.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 10:00 AM DIRECTLY at St. John Cantius Catholic Church, 3903 Main St., East Chicago, Indiana, with Rev. Vladimir Janeczek, officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 from 2-8 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd.(2 blocks south of Ridge Rd.), Highland, Indiana.
There will also be visitation at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:15 AM until time of Mass. There will be a prayer service on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 PM.
Maria lived her entire adult life in East Chicago where she was a faithful member of St. John Cantius Church and several Polish organizations. She was retired from Inland Steel. You were the best mom, grandmother and great grandmother. You were a kind and generous person, a great cook and baker. Everyone will miss your pierogi's, stuffed cabbage and potato salad but most of all we will really miss you! We love you, Mom, Grandma and Babcia
