Written by Martin's son on the 50th anniversary of his father's passing:
It was a half-a-century ago today that my father died. Books won't be written about him, television specials won't be shown, and few are living that remember him well. But, he was a good and kind man, never losing his temper and enjoying the simple things in life. He worked over forty years at the Ford Motor Company and never missed a day of work or was late, even though he took several buses every day for miles to get there. He only had a few years of schooling and was born to a dirt-poor family with many siblings. Yet, he encouraged me to pursue a higher education and to have a better life than he. I think of him often.
