• MADILL -- Services for Lyn E. Ables, 61, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2002, at Watts Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Larry Holder officiating. Interment will be at Woodberry Forest Cemetery.
Ables was born Feb. 18, 1941, in Bristow to the late Lawrence and Marguerite Ables. He died April 22, 2002, at an Oklahoma City hospital.
Raised in Madill, he graduated from Madill High School in 1958 and served in the U.S. Army as a lieutenant.
He obtained his B.B.A. from the University of Oklahoma in 1963, his J.D from the University of Oklahoma School of Law in 1970, and was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar in 1970. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta.
Ables was also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals, the Tenth Circuit, the U.S. District Court and Eastern and Western Districts of Oklahoma.
He was an assistant district attorney for the 20th Judicial District from 1971 to 1974 and was associate district judge in the 20th Judicial District from 1974 to 1976. He served on the board of directors for the Southern Oklahoma Legal Institute from 1972 to 1976 and was bar association president in Marshall County in 1975 and 1986 and in Johnston County in 1973. He was a member of the Oklahoma House of Delegates from 1971 to 2001 and American Bar Association, Oklahoma Trial Lawyers Association, chairman, advisory and area council from 1973 to 1985. He was also a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Oklahoma Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He was in practice in Madill since 1976.
He and Donna Sue Petitti were married on June 19, 1976. She preceded him in death in 1983.
He is survived by his children, Adriene Ables and Leif Ables of Norman; two sisters, Linda Kay Cast of Madill, and Judy Smiley of Corinth, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Gigi and David Grider of Big Pine Key, Fla.; his mother and father-in-law, Jamie and Don Petitti of Sulphur; a number of nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Sherry Beard of Madill.
Bearers will be Jodie Minter, Chuck Barber, Logan Beard, John Carter, John Skaggs, Pat Phelps, Dennis Kerr and Burl Peveto.
