Jerry Ray Barcus, son of Floyd and Georgia Schlieman Barcus, was born June 22, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa. His mother, Georgia, died following his birth. He was put into the care of Oram and Grace Schilling Dawson of Bagley, who later adopted him.

Jerry graduated from Bagley High School in 1955. He joined the Air Force in February 1957. Due to the death of his brother, Ray, in 1958, he received honorable discharge in 1959.

Jerry married Jane Rae Chaloupka on August 29, 1959. The couple lived in Bagley, Iowa and raised five daughters. Jerry began working for Garst & Thomas in Coon Rapids, Iowa in 1963. He retired in 1987 but returned to work for Garst in 1988. He retired again due to health problems in 2002.

Jerry was an avid reader and was known for his large collection of eagle memorabilia and cap collection. He also enjoyed attending many of his grandchildren's events. The couple enjoyed their many travels especially their most recent trip in July to Alaska. They also spent many evenings with their closest friends playing cards.

Jerry passed away on January 23, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his birth parents; adoptive parents; brothers, Ray, Charles, and Eugene; sisters, Betty Jean and Shirley.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Jane Barcus of Bagley, IA; daughters Robin (Craig) Kauspedas of St. Louis, MO; Roxanne (Ron) Hemidinger of Winter Haven, FL; Pam (Rodney) Ware of Glidden, IA; grandchildren, Erica and Matthew; Dawn (Mark) Mozingo of Bagley, IA, grandchildren, Jamey, Jason and Morgan; and Georgia Pardun of Ankeny; grandchildren Scott and Sydney; also survived by brother Floyd (Anita) Barcus Jr. of Sun City West, Arizona and many nieces and nephews.
