My great grandma Hopkins was born as Louisa Todd, but was known as 'Pommy' to our family. When my first daughter was born, we named her Amanda. When Pommy sent us a card for her birth, she wrote a note saying that she was happy to have a little namesake. This leads me to believe that perhaps her middle name was Amanda.
Pommy was married to John William Hopkins in 1916 in Hoboken, NJ. Pommy was a nurse at the time and John was a travelling salesman. They moved to Illinois and had two sons, John and George, and then settled in Detroit for the rest of their lives.
She was widowed at a relatively young age and continued her nursing career until she retired at an old age. She tried living with my family in Colorado for a short time, but the high altitude forced her to return to Detroit where she lived several more years until she passed away at the age of 96.
John William Hopkins (1877 - 1951)*
Note: Warm thanks to Judi Fryer for sponsoring Pommy's memorial.
