Birth: Mar. 3, 1922
Greenville County
South Carolina, USA
Death: Oct. 5, 1990

Dr. W. Jack Hudson was born March 3, 1922 in Greenville, South Carolina. He was associated with racing and was a race car driver during his young life. He met Joyce Skidmore and they were married in July of 1941. They were very much in love and enjoyed life together, but they both knew something was missing. After many visits and witnessing from Christian friends, on February 22, 1950, Jack and Joyce were saved and became new creatures in Christ. Eight months after being saved, Jack Hudson felt God calling him into full time service. He surrendered his life and enrolled in Tennessee Temple University of Chattanooga, Tennessee where he graduated with honors in 1954. He also received his Doctor Of Divinity from Florida Bible College. Jack Hudson returned to Charlotte, North Carolina with a verse in his heart, "They were as sheep having no shepherd..." Mark 6:34. Thus the Northside Baptist Church came into existence the second Sunday in September, 1954 with W. Jack Hudson as it's pastor, wife Joyce, and 27 people in attendance. Over the next 36 years the Lords' hand was indeed on the life of Dr. Hudson and those 27 "sheep". The Lord allowed him through his ministry of suffering to lead Northside Baptist Church through a constant stage of development and expansion. The 27 grew to over 5,000 members and from a "Tar Paper Shack" to a multi-million dollar 145 acre complex. He also founded Northside Christian Academy, Northside Child Care Center and Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. Many thousands of booklets and taped messages have been distributed through out the country. He was also heard weekly on over 30 radio outlets. Believing everything must be founded on scripture, Dr. Hudson used Jeremiah 33:3 as the verse on which Northside Baptist Church was built. The mailing address for the church is "333 Jeremiah Blvd." In spite of severe pain and constant suffering, Dr. Hudson did not quit. To find a true window to his soul it would have to be the saying found on his desk, "THE PATH OF MAN IS TOO DARK, THE CROSS OF CHRIST IS TOO GLORIOUS AND THE HEART OF GOD IS TOO GRIEVED, FOR ME TO QUIT NOW." He was an author, Bible conference speaker, radio evangelist, race car driver, pilot, gourmet cook, husband, dad and grandfather. He lived his life helping those less fortunate, counseling those needing advice, giving direction to those seeking spiritual guidance and never uttering a negative word about a life of physical suffering. His gentleness and compassion have endeared him around the world. On June 3, 1990 Dr. W. Jack Hudson, because of his illness, retired as pastor of Northside Baptist Church. He was carried to the pulpit and placed in a chair and from this seated position preached his tremendous farewell message, The Book". After the message he was taken to the hospital and almost four months to the day on October 5, 1990 Dr. W. Jack Hudson was ushered into Heaven by the Person he had lived to "MAKE MUCH OF". He would no longer have to "PLAY HURT".
