A devoted mother and loving wife was taken to her reward early Tuesday morning, when Mrs, Herbert Ward died at her home, 16 Madison Street. Death was after a long illness, which finally developed into consumption. During the last five months the sufferer had been confined to her bed for the greater part of the time. Her devotion to her children was her strongest trait, and realizing the end was near, the mothers parting advice to them made an affecting scene.
Mrs. Ward's maiden name was Miss Melvina Hendershot, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Hendershot of Stephensburg. She was married to Mr. Ward thirteen years ago. Two children survive the union: Reuben, aged eleven, and Virginia, seven years old. After the marriage the couple resided at Schooley's Mountain, moving from there to Easton. Two years ago the family moved Washington from Kutztown, PA, and Mr. Ward has since been employed in Charles Force's granite works.
Besides her husband and children, Mrs. Ward is survived by her parents; also these brothers and sisters; Robert of Point Mills; Manches of Penwell; Henry of Pittstown, Hunterdon County; Mrs. Alvah Lommerson, of Gladstone; Mrs. William Williver, of Califon, and Mrs. Jacob Wilde of Vailsburg.
The deceased was a member of Schooley's Mountain Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. F. W. Johnson will conduct the funeral services at the late home at eleven o'clock this morning. Internment will be at Union Cemetery at Hackettstown.
