The LeVert house, southwest corner of Government and Royal streets, where Madame Octavia Walton LeVert's famous salon drew such figures as Washington Irving and Henry Clay.

Olivia A. (Roberts) Mather deeded to Henry S. Levert 12/30/1835 (Mobile County Deed Book D/P, p. 304) T4, R2W S14/NE Corner.

May 3, 1836: Last Will & Testament of Thomas Mather, dec'd, produced in court, proved by Willis ROBERTS (father of Olivia Mather, widow of Thos.); admitted to probate; Samuel A. ROBERTS (brother of Olivia Mather) and Henry HITCHCOCK, executors named; Ordered Letters Testimantory issue to them; Bond $60,00; (Dr.)Henry S. LEVERT and Isaac H. ERWIN, Security. (Abstracts of Orphans Court Minutes, Mobile Co., Alabama, Book 1 (1813-1837) by Clinton P. King & Meriem Allison Barlow, 1987, p. 515.) Judge Henry Hitchcock (1792-1839), first Attorney General of Alabama, and also the Secretary of the Alabama Territory (the position which was the precursor to the modern-day Secretary of State of Alabama), served with Willis Roberts on the building committee of Barton Academy. In June 1836, one month after being named co-executor of Thomas Mather's estate, he became Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.
