Joseph Clay Billingsley, 84, of Gray, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006. Services were held Saturday, July 1 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Macon with burial in the Clinton United Methodist Church cemetery in Jones County. The Rev. John Haney officiated.

Mr. Billingsley was born in Kathleen to the late Samuel Fulman Billingsley Sr. and Ethel Rogers Billingsley. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Company A, 121st Infantry, 8th Division in France, where he received a purple heart. Mr. Billingsley was a self-employed businessman. He was a member and Past Master of Macon Lodge #5. He was also Past Grand Commander of the Knights Templar of Georgia. He held memberships in the Grand Council of Georgia, the Grand Chapter of Georgia, Al Sihah Shrine Temple, the Royal Order of Scotland, the New Covenant Conclave of the Red Cross of Constantine, the Order of the Amaranth, and Central City Chapter #28 of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and a 32nd degree Mason.

Mr. Billingsley is survived by his wife, Juanita Ross Billingsley of Gray; nephews, Samuel F. Billingsley and David Lewis Billingsley, both of Atlanta, Roland T. Ross of Gray, and William Wayne Ross of Macon; niece, Kate Ross Williams of Gray; and numerous great- nieces and great-nephews.
