Ida Alta Dodge was the youngest daughter and 9th of ten children born to Trustrum Dodge and Adaline Harvey. Their first child, Adelia, was born in Marengo, Il., in 1853. They then moved to Iowa and to Minnesota in 1858. In 1862 they were farming in Winnebago City, Mn. when Sioux Indians started an uprising. All the farmers were told to move to town and a militia was formed. Adaline and the children lived in a fort for several weeks and Trustrum joined the militia, but the US Army intervened, and the uprising was quelled. In 1869 they moved back to Volga City, Iowa, and remained there until they left for Crowley, Tx. via covered wagon in 1876. They moved back to Iowa in 1885. They farmed in Delaware Co. until 1902 when they retired and bought a home in Oneida, Iowa.
Ida lived all of her life in Iowa with the exception of the few years the family was in Texas. She attended the high school in Volga City. She married James Clendennen in Colesburg, Iowa, on 29 Nov., 1894. Sh was a member of the ME Church. They farmed in Oneida Township and had two daughters, Agnes Belle "Aggie" Cocking (1895-1969) and Nettie Edith Myhra (1903-1967).
