Marvin Adkins, 84, Columbus
Marvin Adkins, 84, of Columbus died at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Adkins was a toolmaker, foreman and supervisor at Peco for 39 years and after retirement worked part time for seven years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was on the board of deacons, a trustee, a Sunday school teacher and a member of Joy Class and the church bowling league. He also belonged to Columbus Golden K Kiwanis Club and Bartholomew County Senior Center, was a former Little League coach, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Just Friends and at the Airport Museum and was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army at Christmas.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Dan Cash and Dr. William Griffith officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery and military graveside rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Born in Harmony Aug. 14, 1923, Mr. Adkins was the son of Benjamin H. and Elsie D. Long Adkins.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita R. Piercefield Adkins; sons, Gary L. Adkins of Franklin, Terry J. (Jeri) Adkins of Bloomington, Larry L. (Rebecca) Adkins of Richmond and Jerry A. (Angela) Adkins of Columbus; daughters, Kathy S. (Keith) Wagner of West Chester, Ohio, and Kristy (Don) Huckaby of Columbus; a brother, Charles Adkins of Bloomington; grandchildren, Nicholas, Jasmine, Tatum and Samuel Adkins, Jennifer, Benjamin and Daniel Wagner, Tyler Huckaby, Tifani Miller and Casey Jo Bradburn; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, the Rev. Ralph Adkins and Roy, Melvin and Basil Adkins; and sisters, Edith Dixon and Norma Adkins.
