OBITUARY
HARRIET TONN - 91
Harriet Olive Welch Tonn died on February 18, 1999, at Canon City, Colorado.
Harriet was born on April 21, 1907 in Grand Junction, CO, a daughter of the late Frank and Olive Welch. She was an accomplished musician, singer and dancer. Harriet played the background music for silent movies at the local theatre. She sang regularly on the new radio station in her community. There she met the love of her life, Howard H. Tonn. He managed the radio station. They married September 26, 1931 in Moab, Utah. They lived in Grand Junction, CO, later moving to Denver, CO. They also lived in Wheat Ridge, CO and on Floyd Hill, east of Idaho Springs, CO. Harriet was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. She was well read, and encouraged lifelong education for her children. She fed her family from her large garden, and farm, preserving fruits and vegetables. She sewed the family clothing, and still found time to help the All Saints Episcopal Church and local schools. Later, she managed a bakery in suburban Denver, driving 20 miles through the mountains each way, every day. When she retired, she and Howard built a house in Grand Junction, living there more than 20 years. As her health failed, she and Howard found it necessary to move to Pueblo, CO and later she moved to Florence, CO and Canon City, CO.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Howard, in 1991; her siblings Percy Fred Welch; Frank Eli Welch; Edward Albert Welch; Mildred Odell Bower; and Florence Bell Shephardson; and grandson Casey E. Tonn.
She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild.
At Harriet's request, no services will be held. Her ashes will be buried at the family plot in Dory Hill Cemetery, above Central City, CO.
